The waters of Singapore have welcomed the country’s maiden fully electric cargo vessel.

This new lightweight vessel developed for Yinson GreenTech’s marine EV brand is an 18.5 m long hydromover and has a capacity of 25 tonnes of cargo. The Hydromover features are swappable batteries, zero emissions, and can minimize operational costs by up to 50% when compared to a conventional vessel.

Yinson Genentech’s CEO Eirik Barclay stated that the Hydromover demonstrates that through the right strategic partners and alliances, one can easily achieve their mission. He further added that this is an exciting period as they have already received interest from across the regions and neighbouring countries like Indonesia and talks have just started with Yinson Green Tech to deploy the vessel for backwater transportation of goods and electrification of local fishing vessels.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced that by 2030, all new vessels in the harbour of Singapore waters have to operate on low-carbon energy solutions and reduce emissions by 15% from 2021 levels and by 2050, all harbour vessels must be fully-electric or running on net zero fuels.
