The port of Rotterdam did a pilot project and has agreed to use integrated planning as it offers faster handling of inland vessels. The tool Nextlogic helps in matching supply and demand for inland container shipping handling and provides barge operations, their rotation, and cargo information in advance for each inland vessel. On the other hand, the container terminals and empties depots work on their available handling capacity, and Nextlogic extracts all the information to develop an optimized schedule for all stakeholders that is updated every 15 minutes.

Thijs Van Den Heuvel, a board member of VITO stated that integrated planning offers optimal productivity for all stakeholders in the port of Rotterdam and insists that more parties should join to enhance the Nexlogic tool. He further stated that the final goal is to make the port more transparent and advantageous for everyone.
