The IRISL (Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line Group) is introducing a direct shipping trade route between the south-eastern port of Chabahar to the port of Nhava Sheva in Mumbai, India. This new shipping route is estimated to reduce the transit time between India and Iran to five days and will offer competitive prices to businesses.

The spokesperson of the port of Chabahar stated that this change will have a major impact on the expansion of trade and strengthen the regional and extra-regional position of the port of Chabahar. A similar approach was launched for shipping routes between Chabahar and China ports and that led to a multifold increase in activity in Chabahar. The route takes only 12 days and is cost-effective.

India has a stake in the construction of the Shahid Beheshti Terminal in Chabahar and has committed over $200 million worth of investment in the port as it offers hassle-free transit access to Afghanistan and landlocked countries in Central Asia via Iran.
