India concluded trail runs for the transshipment of consignment to connect NE states with the rest of the country through two major ports of Bangladesh. The fourth and the last run was to link Mongla and Chittagong to NE states through the India-Bangladesh protocol route from Assam to Kolkata docks via land and sea ports of the neighboring country.

The Chairman of Syama Prasad Mookherjee port (SMP) said that trails have been completed before schedule and this initiative will boost business flow to the northeast on inland waterways through the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route and will also help reduce the freight cost. The trial movement of Indian cargo from West Bengal to Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya and vice versa was concluded successfully. India has also offered a grant to Bangladesh to support dredging to smoothen the movement.
