Cargo surge strains Chattogram & Mundra ports, Congestion escalates

Chattogram Port in Bangladesh is facing serious congestion as shipping volumes hit record highs, leading to vessel backlogs and longer anchor times. The port’s congestion is being worsened by suspension of freight train services, which began in early August, causing containers to pile up in port yards and inland container depots. Meanwhile, Mundra Port in India is seeing its Empty Container Depots (ECDs) waterlogged due to heavy monsoon rains, hampering access and delaying cargo movement. Flooding and muck are damaging infrastructure, with some empty and loaded containers stranded. The combined effect: rising costs, shipment delays, and increased logistics stress for importers/exporters using these key gateways.
