The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is the first port to implement electronic bunker delivery notes from the start of next month. The authority believes that if this process becomes digital it will bolster efficiency and transparency.

At present, the Maritime Industry relies on physical bunker delivery notes (standard document mandatory by the international conversion for the prevention of pollution) from ships that comprise information on fuel oil delivery.

Multiple trials have been conducted, involving over 20 organizations in the Singapore bunkering ecosystem.
All the stakeholders, including licensed bunker suppliers, operations, and shipowners are encouraged to go digital by utilizing the mobile and cloud solutions by MPA. This will help them complete the digital bunkering document within seconds and around 40,000 man-days per year can be saved for the bunker industry.

Singapore is the world’s largest bunkering hub and has been introducing multiple technologies that can be useful in the port and shipyards.
