The CPA (Chittagong Port Authority) has launched its first shipping route to connect Chittagong seaport with Middle East countries. The first ship that will be operating on this sea route is from the Hong-Kong based shipping company CMA CGA (carrying vegetables).

Previously, for moving such perishable goods, air cargo was the primary means of transport which was expensive, but after the launch of this route, one ship will be leaving Chittagong seaport with containers to Dubai every week and vice-versa.

Read Admiral, M Shahiahan, Chairman of CPA said that the capacity and quality of work in the Chittagong seaport are improving each day. Now they have the opportunity to start a direct route to the USA even and they are in the phase wherein they are readily connecting to ship owners for new routes on a priority basis now. With this new route launch, port countries like Portugal, Slovenia, and Dubai are showing keen interest in signing an agreement with Chittagong Port for direct sea routes.

President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Mahbubul Alam said that the new sea route would reduce the cost as well as the time of carrying goods and it will help many sectors.

The CPA is currently lining up applications from ship owners for new routes from Chittagong sea port. Now with the aim to establish new sea routes in the future, it will significantly enhance the export and import capabilities of Bangladesh.
