The Government of India has initiated high-level discussions with the National Shipping Board (NSB) to address emerging challenges in the country’s maritime sector and strengthen shipping capacity amid rising global uncertainties. The meeting, chaired by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, brought together industry leaders, policymakers and maritime stakeholders to review operational issues affecting India’s shipping ecosystem.
During the interaction, participants discussed the impact of geopolitical tensions, shifting global supply chains and increasing operational pressures on maritime trade. Stakeholders highlighted the need for targeted policy measures to improve fleet capacity, enhance logistics resilience and support the long-term growth of India’s shipping industry. The government has directed officials to prepare a roadmap to address these concerns and strengthen sectoral competitiveness.
The meeting also reviewed progress under key national initiatives such as Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which aim to modernise port infrastructure, expand shipping capacity and position India as a leading global maritime hub. The engagement with the NSB underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining stable cargo movement, stronger maritime infrastructure and a resilient supply chain ecosystem in an increasingly complex global trade environment.
