Turkey could soon play a pivotal role in global logistics as rising geopolitical risks and evolving trade policies prompt a reevaluation of traditional maritime and land trade routes. Industry voices within the country are optimistic about the opportunities this shift could bring.
Bilgehan Engin, President of the Turkish Forwarding and Logistics Association (UTİKAD), noted that the latest tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump may catalyze a redirection of maritime trade flows. He further added that the additional tariffs could alter maritime trade routes, leading to a search for new paths and alternative corridors. Turkey may stand out as a key player in Europe’s search for new trade routes. He emphasized that this transition could enhance the country’s trade ties with the European Union, positioning it as a central and reliable logistics partner.
Adding to this perspective, Şerafettin Aras, Chairman of the Board at the International Transporters’ Association (UND), highlighted the growing significance of the Middle Corridor—a direct and cost-effective land route linking Europe with Central Asia and China via Turkey. Aras noted that this corridor has gained increased relevance due to ongoing changes in global supply chains and regional geopolitical developments. Together, these developments suggest Turkey is not just adapting to the changing logistics landscape but is ready to lead it.
