The NCS (Nigeria Customs Service) has guaranteed importers of Roll-on-Roll-off (RoRo) cargo that within four hours the process of clearance will be completed. The controller, Suleiman Bomai stated that there will be utmost clarity and all the compliances like declaration, duty payment, timely examination, and no smuggling would be entertained to sustain this feat.

As the NCS is looking at zero tolerance for infractions, there are efforts made to step up their revenue collection. In the meantime, the HR managers of the World Customs Organizations, West and Central Africa have spoken on the need to develop resilience to manage and withstand unforeseen artificial shocks and accidents in the future.

Speaking at the 11th training for Customs Human Resource Managers of West and Central Africa, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, who also doubles as the Vice Chairman, of WCO West and Central African Region said that the capacity training is very suitable and happening on time considering the negative impacts of Covid-19 global health pandemic. The WCA region has always faced challenges from both economic and health that led to the reasons to shift focus on the promotion of employee well-being. He further said that the training will deploy behavioral assessment tools that will enhance and drive the human capital performance while also sustaining the regional assistance program on customs. The WCA does not want to have another Covid like situation in the future hence taking collective efforts to build resilience as the Customs service staff is essential in international trade and they need to have the skills set to face any kind of challenges in the region.
